WCAG 2.1 Level AA as a development target
The site has been built with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA in mind from its initial architecture.
- Semantic HTML and logical heading hierarchy.
- Skip-to-main-content link.
- Keyboard-operable navigation.
- Visible focus indicator.
- Enhanced contrast in the header, buttons and content.
- Real HTML text for essential information; logos do not replace textual content.
- Responsive design for mobile devices.
- Color is not used as the sole means of conveying information.
- Static galleries with no autoplay.
- Informative images with alternative text.
- Maps with accessible titles and complementary textual information.
- Respects the system preference for reduced motion.
Formal WCAG 2.1 AA conformance must be confirmed through automated auditing and manual review of keyboard access, contrast, zoom, reflow and assistive technologies.
